GPI's share of health insurance in Georgia
In 2025 the company was first in Georgia by health insurance premiums (24.1%); in the first six months of 2026 it was second (16.3%). In retail — policies that people buy for themselves — it was first in both periods: 55.1% and 49.4%.

How much does GPI insurance cost: plans and prices
The cheapest GPI insurance is the Medi Standard plan: for Georgian citizens from 36 ₾ a month or 432 ₾ paid at once for a year, for foreigners from 540 ₾ a year.
| Plan | Who for | Age | Payment | Price from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Medi Standard / Classic / Premium | Georgian citizens | from age 1 | monthly or in one payment for the year | 36 / 58.50 / 67.50 ₾ a month or 432 / 702 / 810 ₾ a year |
| Medi Standard / Classic / Premium | people without Georgian citizenship | from age 1; women up to 60, men up to 65 | online: for the full year only | 540 / 840 / 960 ₾ a year |
| Exclusive Standard / Classic / Premium | everyone, including families | from age 1; not sold to people aged 60 and over | one-off or monthly; expats online: for the full year | 80 / 92 / 117 ₾ a month for Georgian citizens; 1.5 times more for expats |
| Student contract | students without Georgian citizenship | — | single payment | MAX — 264 ₾ a year, PRO — 132 ₾ a semester |
Medi rates also depend on the base clinic; from age 60 you pay 120 ₾ a year more. The company may raise the price by 30%, warning you by SMS (clause 5.4.2.10). The Basic and Optimal plans are not sold online; Onco Care is a payout in case of cancer, not health insurance.
Exclusive has a family option with one shared limit for the whole family (clauses 1.18 and 7.2). In Exclusive the price can be raised on renewal by no more than 30%, and the SMS comes a month in advance (clauses 8.2 and 10.2.2).
Medi or Exclusive: a personal doctor or any clinic
Medi is cheaper, but planned care under it goes through a personal doctor and on their referral. With Exclusive you choose the clinic yourself: you can go to any clinic without a referral — you pay the bill and claim reimbursement within 30 days — while at a network clinic, on a personal doctor's referral, you pay only your share (clause 4.7.2).
You choose the base clinic from 15 when you buy; in Tbilisi they include two clinics of Curatio, a GPI subsidiary. A clinic that has no contract with the company can be used on referral only with the Classic or Premium plan (clause 3.6.2). Under its rules, Medi is an add-on to the state healthcare programmes and works only together with them (clause 5.2.2).
The policy takes effect after 14 days
For the first 14 days after purchase a GPI policy gives no help, not even in an emergency. So you need to buy it in advance.
Under the rules, the first premium is paid at least 14 days before the insurance period begins. You can use the policy 14 days after the contract is concluded (Medi, clauses 5.1.2 and 5.7.2; Exclusive, clauses 3.2 and 13.2). When you buy on the website, the start date is automatically set 14 days ahead; the same rule applies in the contract for foreign students (clause 6.2).
All GPI health insurance policies only take effect 14 days after purchase, and this is very important. For all those 14 days the policy gives no help at all — neither planned care nor even emergency care.
How long to wait for planned hospital care and childbirth
Emergency care is available right after the first 14 days; planned hospital care comes after a 12-month waiting period in both policies (clause 2.6.3 of the Medi rules). Only Exclusive pays for childbirth — from month 25; there is no waiting period for dental care.
Can a foreigner buy a GPI policy?
Yes, including online: both policies are sold to people without Georgian citizenship. There are no discounts for them, and on the website they can only pay for the full year at once.
Age limits in Medi: women up to 60, men up to 65 (clause 5.3.14); costs under it are reimbursed at the prices for Georgian citizens (clause 4.7). It works only together with the state programmes (clause 5.2.2) — the rules do not explain how this works for people who are not part of them. Exclusive is not sold to people aged 60 and over (clause 9.1); for everyone else the rate is 1.5 times higher (Annex 2). The application form asks for your citizenship and passport number; the website, personal account and app are in Georgian and English, with no Russian.
What the policy covers and what is excluded
Both policies pay for emergency and planned care, medicines and dental treatment; the limit is set separately for each service, and the rules have no overall annual limit. There is no deductible either: the company pays its percentage of the bill, and the rest is your co-payment (Exclusive, clause 1.5; Medi, clause 1.14).
Limits for hospital care and childbirth
Exclusive has higher hospital limits, and only Exclusive pays for childbirth.
| Service | Medi | Exclusive |
|---|---|---|
| Emergency hospital care | 5,000 / 10,000 / 20,000 ₾; after an accident 12,000 / 15,000 / 20,000 ₾ | 100%, up to 20,000 / 22,000 / 25,000 ₾ |
| Planned hospital care | from year 2: 80% up to 3,000, 80% up to 4,000, 90% up to 5,000 ₾ | from month 13: 90 / 100 / 100%, up to 12,000 / 15,000 / 20,000 ₾ |
| Childbirth | not covered | from month 25: up to 700 / 800 / 1,000 ₾ |
Which illnesses are not covered, including chronic ones
The policies do not pay for illnesses on the exclusions list, for tumours that existed before the insurance began, or for a hospital stay that started before the policy took effect. The rules have no general exclusion for conditions you had before buying.
The exclusions are in section 4 of the Medi rules and section 5 of the Exclusive rules:
- excluded entirely: HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, diabetes, STIs, mental illness, epilepsy, and in Exclusive also chronic blood diseases and tuberculosis;
- tumours that existed before the insurance began; in Medi, benign ones too;
- Medi only: childbirth, cataracts, radiotherapy and chemotherapy;
- in both: congenital conditions (in Exclusive, surgery for them is paid from month 72), cosmetic treatment, weight and vision correction, sanatorium stays, IVF, the effects of alcohol and drugs, professional sport.
How to get help: call, treatment, reimbursement
In an emergency, first call the medical line on +995 32 2 505 111, otherwise the costs are not reimbursed. At a network clinic the company pays the bill and you pay your share; at other clinics you pay yourself and claim reimbursement.
- Emergency: call before you get care and give your full name, policy number, the clinic and the time (Medi, clause 3.5.1; Exclusive, clause 4.6.3).
- Planned surgery: documents at least 5 working days in advance; the guarantee letter is issued on the basis of Form No. 100 and a cost breakdown; without approval Medi does not pay, and Exclusive pays 10% less.
- Medicines: on your personal doctor's prescription; at partner pharmacies you pay only your share.
- Reimbursement: in the MyGPI app or your personal account within 30 days of the date of service, with your ID, Form No. 100 signed and stamped, the cost breakdown and the till receipt.
Which clinics accept GPI policies
As of 18 October 2026, GPI's list has 370 contracts with clinics for holders of both policies; more than half are in Tbilisi.
One clinic can have several contracts — for different branches and specialties; corporate dental clinics are not included. Contracts: Tbilisi 192, Imereti 37 (Kutaisi 18), Adjara 26 (Batumi 20). The company may change the list while the policy is in force (clause 5.4.2.8 of the Medi rules); addresses are in our list of GPI clinics by city on 100doc.ge.

How to complain about GPI
First a complaint to the company, then the free Insurance Mediation service or the Insurance State Supervision Service, and only after them the courts.
- The company: via the hotline, by letter, at info@gpih.ge or through the form on its website; under the website's rules, the reply takes up to a month.
- Insurance Mediation of the Association of Insurance Companies of Georgia — free of charge and before going to court, tel. 2 555 155.
- If the company has not replied within 30 days or you are not satisfied with the reply, you can write to the Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia. The Service checks whether the law has been broken, but does not resolve contractual disputes.
- A court of general jurisdiction at the insurer's location — if 30 days of negotiations have not led to an agreement (mediation and court: Exclusive, clauses 15.2–15.3; Medi, clauses 5.9.2–5.9.3).
