How Family Doctor plans differ from Free Choice plans

Family Doctor is cheaper, but planned care is available only with a referral from your family doctor (clause 3.3). On Free Choice plans you can see a specialist or go for tests without a referral (clause 1.12).

  • Family doctors work in the ARDIMEDI network (clause 1.2); you can book in advance through the ARDIANA assistant on the hotline (rules No. 3 and No. 5 of the contract).
  • On Free Choice plans, medicines can be bought at any licensed pharmacy; with a family doctor's referral, purchases at PSP, Aversi, Pharmadepo and GPC get an extra 5% of coverage (clause 1.13).

Family Doctor plans are cheaper, but planned treatment goes through a referral from your family doctor. If you want to choose doctors and clinics yourself, plans in the Free Choice line will suit you.

Can the price change during the year?

Yes. Once per calendar year the company may raise the policy price by no more than 50%, but it must give 30 days' written notice (Article 7 of the rules). You can reject the new price, and the contract then ends with no further obligations (clause 7.4). If the lari falls by 25% after you buy, the insurer may revise the terms and rates (clause 4.4).

If claims paid exceed what you have already paid, you will have to pay the rest of the annual price when the contract ends for any reason, even for late payment (clause 6.2). If a service costs more than the unpaid balance, that balance is deducted from your reimbursement (clause 4.5).

Can a foreigner get an ARDI policy?

Yes. Expats can buy Vitamins online with a passport, and no residence permit is required. There is no monthly payment: you pay for the year in full or in 2 or 4 instalments. For Georgian citizens the policy is cheaper.

Foreigners can buy Vitamins online with a passport

A general guide to health insurance for foreigners in Georgia is available on our Russian-language blog.

How to buy and pay for a policy online

You need your passport (number and a scan) and a Georgian mobile number to receive an SMS code; you pay in the same place.

  • The main insured person must be 18 or older; children are added as additional insured persons.
  • The start date is chosen 3–5 days after purchase.

Can I insure a child?

Yes, from the first day of life, as an additional insured person on an adult's policy. Reimbursement for a minor is paid to the parent (clause 10.5).

Need a policy just for a trip?

Vitamins is an annual health policy for living in Georgia. For a trip you need travel insurance; how expat cover differs from travel cover is explained in an article on our Russian-language blog.

When the policy takes effect

ARDI's rules set no general waiting period: emergency care is covered from the policy start date. Waiting periods for planned services and for pregnancy and childbirth (clause 1.8) are not published in the company's public documents, so check them with the hotline before you buy.

The policy comes into force once the first two months are paid; services before that are not covered (clauses 10.2 and 2.26).

Does the waiting period restart on renewal?

No. Waiting periods count from your first Vitamins contract, and on renewal you can move up only one level (clause 5.2).

What the policy covers and what it does not

The policy pays 100% of hospital treatment within the limit for that service, and 40–80% of outpatient care, medicines and planned dental care. Not covered are, for example, cosmetic treatment, psychotherapy, IVF and prostheses.

The policy also includes (the company does not publish the limits): an ARDIMEDI family doctor, ambulance, doctor home visits in Tbilisi and Batumi, pregnancy and childbirth, emergency dental care and urgent vaccinations, nursing care after surgery, and professional teeth cleaning twice a year (clauses 1.2–1.4, 1.8, 1.9, 1.11, 1.15, 1.16). The policy is valid in Georgia, excluding the occupied territories; planned treatment is also available at partner clinics in Turkey (clause 1.18).

What is not covered and when a claim can be refused

The main exclusions (section 2 of the rules): diabetes, chronic and viral hepatitis (except hepatitis A) and chronic kidney failure outside emergencies, congenital and mental illnesses (clauses 2.1, 2.2, 2.6); cosmetic treatment, psychologists and psychiatrists, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, planned vaccinations, IVF, prostheses, implants, orthodontics and glasses (clauses 2.9–2.15, 2.24); extreme sports and road accidents while driving under the influence (clauses 2.20, 2.22).

Grounds for refusal: documents submitted more than 30 days after the event (clause 10.4), no referral on Family Doctor plans (clause 3.3), failure to report another health policy (clause 10.7); late payment, until the debt is paid, and after a month the contract ends (clause 9.10).

How to get help and reimbursement

In an emergency, call the hotline on 2 10 10 10 or an ambulance; any clinic will do. If you paid yourself, submit the documents in your My Room account within 30 days of the event; the money is paid within 10 working days after all documents are in.

Which clinics accept the ARDI policy

Family doctors work at ARDIMEDI network clinics, planned dental care is at partner dental clinics, and emergency care is available at any licensed clinic in Georgia. The partner list on the company's website dates from October 2022; there is no newer public list.

Check the clinic for a planned visit with the hotline or in the app. Our list of ARDI clinics by city on 100doc.ge is based on that list, and the map of clinics that accept insurance shows clinics for all companies.
